CHRISTMAS is STILL VIRGIN - WINTER FESTIVAL IS COMMERICALIZED

From December 01, 2007 ON AIR JUDGE WYLD SHOW - Radio Talk

Excerpt from show prep notes. On air content may have been more or less. Not journalistic or debate notes.

Is Christmas too Commercialized… No

I was asked that question during an impromptu game we play at a speakers club. We give topics. Have someone get up in front of the group and come up with an instant speech on the surprise topic. Sort of like what the politicians do but they kind of know the subjects and have answers ready…. Then we vote on the person who did the best job. I won. Is Christmas too Commercialized…. My answer? NO.

Sure shopping, buying gifts, putting up lights on and in houses, making meals, having parties, traveling to visit people. We do A LOT of things about this time of year. TV advertising, newspaper advertising of Sales, We even mess with the Santa Claus, elves, raindeer, and cartoon specials. There are many things like these that happen in December.

But let’s face it. Christmas is NOT those things. Therefore those things are not commercialization of Christmas because they are NOT Christmas. You are doing SOMETHING, that is TRUE….. but it is not Christmas.

CHRISTMAS IS the celebration of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST’s BIRTH.

Therefore activities that celebrate the BIRTHDAY are CHRISTMAS. Things that do not celebrate it like a tree with just gingerbread ornaments or shiney ball ornaments do not celebrate the birth. Christmas is church plays about the birth. Manager scenes on people’s property. Religious song of the coming of the Christ child. A family getting together to read the Chirstmas birth history from the bible. THIS is Christmas.

So… One activity is one thing. The other activity is another thing. They just happen to be at the same time of year. Why don’t we have the gift giving and trees and parties in February??? A different month of the year? Why have it at the same time as Christmas?

It is clear the Christmas has NOT become commercialized. People who celebrate Christmas are not worried about giving meaningless gifts. Do not have holiday trees and call it a Christmas Tree.

People who celebrate Christmas do not care if a store says Merry Christmas because when YOU go to the store to worry about buying the right meaningless gift for someone YOU are not celebrating the birth of our Lord Baby Jesus. That SALE at the store has NOTHING to do with Christmas. NOTHING. So it doesn’t matter what the clerk says. If they happen to wish you a merry Christmas then you SHOULD feel ashamed if the reason you were in the store was to buy gifts of want versus gifts of need. When a store says Merry Christmas to you. It should be a reminder that they are celebrating something OTHER than Christmas and your motives are in celebrating gift giving instead of celebrating Christ’s birth.

Two different things. Christmas IS NOT too commercialized because one activity of buying and selling has nothing to do with the other activity. Christmas has NOT been modified. It is still there. Untouched. Unharmed. You get to choose.

Christmas is a non-stressful celebration of Jesus birth. That other stuff is unrelated and so why are you doing it??? What are you celebrating this time of year? Move that gift giving to another time of the year, perhaps to your yearly Family Reunion in the summer.

Do you know the difference between Christmas and Winter Holidays? Comments?

Sincerely, JUDGE WYLD
